Unless listed below as errors, the procedures in the book work with the particular version of Plone 2.0 used during the writing of the book. If your version of Plone differs—as it will over time—be sure to read the Plone changelog and documentation for things which will render items in the book moot, or change the way procedures may be performed.
NOTE: Please go to the Plone web site to download the latest version of the software. Also, be sure to check the Collective for new verions of Plone add-ons.
MINI-NOTE I am not listing issues with typeface/applied styles unless they cause confusion.
Introduction
- Well, the very first sentence is wrong. Not a good start. :) This book has been through three different titles before publication, and apparently whomever changed the "Welcome to [book title]" text didn't get the memo for the third title change. So on behalf of myself and Sams, "Welcome to the [name of the book that you have in your hands]".
Chapter 2: Installing Plone
- Be aware that the list of items included with the Plone distribution will change over time; items may be added or removed, or their versions updated.
- Figure 2.6 does not actually show the window for creating the Plone manager account; the window shown instead is that which pops up when root-level user authentication is required for the continuation of software installation. You'll run into this window if you are attempting to install Plone while logged in as a non-root/administrator user. The actual window for creating a Plone manager account will be self-explanatory when you see it.
Chapter 3: Joining a Plone Site
- page 40; the URL in the "Username" bullet point obviously should not have a hyphen in it (caused by a line break).
- page 53-55; the figures are not necessarily where one might expect them to be, in the flow of the text. Follow along the references to figure numbers rather than positioning within the text.
Chapter 4: Additional Plone Elements
- page 78; in the Note, there's no opening quotation mark to indicate the start of the quote, which starts at "forumNB stands for..."
- page 100, figure 4.19 is not correct. The correct figure is here.
Chapter 6: Creating and Implementing a Custom Skin
- The use of Texas Governor Rick Perry's site as an example of a skinned Plone site in no way constitutes political support.
Chapter 7: Additional Content-Related Techniques
- page 155; in figure 7.3, the lines aren't exactly pointing where they should. The value of template/title is "My Template" and thus should point to the three instances of "My Template". The value of here/title should point to "myPlone". The value of template/id is correct (testing_template).
